Some nature creatures just don't go with me. I rather stay away from them, and they can mind their own business too. Them being spiders and snakes, but more spiders once they are over certain size. Let's say one centimeter is starting to look scary too me.
A recent encounter with a giant spider (giant to me of course) reminded me this little incident my mother put me through.
I stood their on the stool. I cried, and once in the while would looked up in the corner. There he was entangled in his own web, not even looking at me. Probably minding his own business, not worrying, not carrying, and not knowing what I was about to do to him. In both hands I had rolled newspaper. It was my weapon, the weapon I didn't want to own, hold or use it. I was crying hard. Tears rolling my cheeks. I cried to my mother, 'No I will not kill him, I can't, I am scared'. My mission only lasted for about ten or fifteen minutes of crying, and it was not accomplished. My sister said, 'No she will never do it, let her go'. She was right. I will not kill a spider, why should I. I am scared of them, but killing them will not get rid of the fear of spiders.
Until today I am not very fond of spiders. I will not kill them, but I don't want to be friends. Relocation program works with me. I still don't know why my mother put me through definitely unforgettable moment of my life, and definitely not good moment when you are five or six year old.
So wise, Anna! I think you're right. Most people who kill spiders seem to do so to try to eliminate their fear. Most people who kill them seem to be afraid. Then there are some who for some reason just get a kick out of killing something. It's so stupid on so many levels, especially because spiders are helpful little creatures!
ReplyDeleteI really like spiders. I think they're so interesting and beautiful. I don't know why so many people don't see them that way. Why were (are) you afraid of them?
I'm with you, Anna! Ditto.
ReplyDeleteGreat story.
Hugs, Nancy
Thanks loveable_homebody for your comment. Yes killing isn't that pleasant, lol, especially when it is a big spider. And you are right they are helpful little creatures. Yes I am afraid of spiders, just something that bothers me about them, one of the fears I have I guess.
ReplyDeleteHi Nancy, nice to see you here. Thanks for dropping by and hope all is well otherwise.
Anna :)
Wow! You just brought back several memories for me tjhat I think I will blog abou in the near future.
ReplyDeleteI am hugely afraid of spider and bugs in general but I am a big fan of murder in their case.
Anna, that would be tough on a little one. Your mother must have been trying to "empower" you, but I can see why that memory would stick and would not eliminate the fear of spiders. Spiders don't bother me that much, but MICE--I do not find them cute but completely creepy. But I don't want to kill them either.
ReplyDeleteHey San welcome back to the blogging world. We all missed you. MICE bother's me too, but have not encountered them lately, however, we had one sneaked into our house once, and unfortunately, mice is not one of those where you can open the door and tell it to go out, so you just have to guess what happened. Again thanks for visiting, you been really missed. Anna :)
ReplyDeleteAh, the world was very different then, I am guessing your mother thought this would "toughen" you up and help you to overcome your fear. I scoop spiders up in a glass aND realease them, but as I don't really fear them, it's easy enough for me. I also chase the odd bee or wasp outdoors, and all my mouse-traps are humane - however, I do kill insects if they infest the house - I'm not adverse to spraying ants and the like!
ReplyDeleteWell, we have rather a of poisonous things in Arizona. One of them a very large and hairy Wolf Spiders is very poisonous ... If I find any of them in my home I kill them. I have a comprised immune system and one bite from them and if I make it to hospital. . .
ReplyDeleteSo the rule for my home is, outside fine, in my home dead !
cheers, parsnip
I put them on the broom and help them outdoors where they belong. They do not belong in my corners or under furniture or any place inside but I welcome their help in the garden with the bug critters!
ReplyDeleteSandi
I help them out on the broom, but I won't harm them, I need their help in the garden, not inside in the corners or under the furniture or anyplace inside where I am. I'm with you on this tho, no killing of them!
ReplyDeleteSandi
A spider relocation program? Anna, you are too nice. Here I relocate them to the next life! I read once that, in a lifetime, the average person swallows 8 spiders. Probably an urban myth, but a good one.
ReplyDeleteYous story is quite typical Anna, and without being sexist why is it the fairer sex that seems to dislike spiders? I guess you took the picture though - with a long lens?
ReplyDeleteI'm the same, relocation sounds like the best bet.
ReplyDeleteI am with you Anna...
ReplyDeleteShrinky you are right the life was much different then, but then my mother is very interesting character too. Thanks for dropping by, and my I been absent again, time really flies. Anna :)
ReplyDeleteparsnip if I see one of those around my house only, I probably never come out. I still have difficulty visualizing how people can live with these dangerous creatures around. parsnip, thanks you so much for visiting.
ReplyDeleteI am with you Sandi. I keep little ones around, since sometimes they help to kill the small insects around. Sandi thank you again for your visit.
Will you made me laugh, lol, next life. Yeah I heard about that too, but not just spiders, but insects too. Thanks Will, nice to see you on this side.
Thanks Ryan, nice to know that we all on the same channel. Thanks Ryan again.
Angel thanks, and nice to see you back blogging, your girl is so cute.
Anna :)
