Halloween Bash 2007: Ghost Story 4 - In the House

When we were young we played crazy but not dangerous pranks among us, but these pranks turn into scary feeling. The house we used to live was an old house built by Germans. I think Germans used to keep deceased in the funeral home right at the cemetery. However, that tradition changed when Polish moved into the area right after the war. A dead person was prepared and kept in the house for three days. When my grandfather died, they did the same, they kept him for three days in our house. All I remember is that a lot of people came every day, sat around the coffin, and either prayed or again gossiped about the latest and greatest, and also told stories or little things just enough to make us think about it. I was only five years old then, but I was quite aware of the ghosts too. So they used to say that kids had tendency to see more, and they told once a story how a little girl saw her dead mother just beside the coffin. No body saw anything, but the little girl was talking to her dead mom as she was alive.

Going back to pranks. Sometimes my parents and grandparents would work late in the field or for some reason leave us in the house alone. I think then it was three of us, my older sister probably eight years old, me just about seven year old and my other baby sister probably year old. For some reason we would sit tight in the house, but then one of us would start tell the ghost stories and even embellish them and act like one too, lol. On the end, we both would get so scared that we would take are baby sister and sit outside the house until late evening when it was dark, and wait for someone to come back home. We were much more comfortable outside, I guess we had more freedom just in case we had to run, better than hiding in the small rooms with an imaginary ghost, lol.

So the Halloween is around the corner. I will conclude the Halloween Bash 2007 with this story. So for all those kids and everyone else celebrating Halloween - have fun, play safe, and never know may be you will see the real ghost too.

  1. The name of your blog, "Story Blob" amuses me. :D

When I had just started my blog, I sent out the URL to some friends and family members. A few weeks later, an old friend wrote me and said, "I just love your blob."

Blog? Blob? Just keep on writing!

  2. Hey Anna,

That's so true: kids are prone to see and communicate with "ghosts" (they are that innocent)! I used to play with one too, when I was a little girl (that's why I am not at all surprise at these stories you're sharing with us) :).

LOL you were so cute. But you girls were right though: it would be safer outside than inside, in case of ghost danger lol.
Let's see what Halloween has reserved for me this year (I just know it will be so much fun when I have my own kids *tender smile*...kids are the soul of Halloween)!

You too, Anna, have fun and play safe lol :).
I loved the series of Halloween stories.

    Cheers

  3. Yes, it is said that small children have abilities that we all lose as we grow up. I don't know if it is because children are more imaginative, or because they are more open to the possibilities.

By the way, Anna, this is a good change on the comments. I think it will encourage more people to comment on this blob as they do on MyOnlyPhoto. I just need to remember to sign in as myself when I post a comment as Blogger thinks I have an account with them and will post me as "William" with a link to a profile that does not exist! That is a Blogger bug, though, nothing to do with your blog. For some reason, if a person has any type of Google account, Blogger assumes you have a Blogger ID.

  5. Hi Max, yes being kids was fun, and because time wasn't flying that fast, I actually can remember lot of details, where now sometimes three day pass and I already forget, lol.

Yes, kids are more prone to see more, they don't have much to worry, they don't know much, they don't think too much, they think more freely and don't block a lot of things that we probably do.

  6. Will, thanks, I think you are right about kids.

Again, thanks for your constructive criticism on the comment box. Yes blogger can be sometimes confusing, and funny why certain features are just not available or working certain way. Hey you got to become blogger guru William, lol, just kidding. Thanks again, I will keep you inform about the traffic. Anna :)

  7. ....hi Max again, I got interrupted and just went on to Will's comment...and here are I am back, lol - I can assume that you don't have kids yet, but I think you are ready to have them, just reading between the lines, lol. And you yourself have fun on Halloween, and play safe, they are calling for warm day tomorrow during the day and rain in the evening, see how that will turn out. Thanks again, Anna :)

  8. Hey Anna,

You assume correctly, I don't have kids, yet :)! lol Yes, my bio clock is already ticking...

It will be warm here in Portugal too; the spirits are bringing good weather this year! Tonight at midnight the doors will be open (to this world and to the next)!

    Have fun :).

  9. Hi Max, thanks, oh I just envision you as mother, you will be great, to be wise at that age, that is a gift. Anna :) Hope you had great time on Halloween. Our place was kind of isolated from the world, so I think we had more real ghosts, than the little happy kiddy ghosts. Anna :)

  11. Hello Anna,

I have a great immagination, myself...that is why I include my emotions in the messages lol...

I also like talking to you; you seem like a nice person :).
You are most welcome to my blog :).
I have thought to put a poll on my blog, asking people if they think I should reply to their comments on my own blog...

  12. Great true story!!! I believe some people do see ghosts and speak to them. It's a gift but I wouldn't want it. :D

  13. Hi Max, thanks for your messages, and sorry for late comments back, just been tight on time - and thanks for your kind comments too.

I think you should comment back for comments to your post on your blog, and then if you have conversation on my blog just continue with that. I often go back to read your comments under your posts, so I will comment back. I think that way we can have two conversations going, two different topics and have twice the fun, lol. Just a suggestions. Anna :)

PS no ghosts for you - may be they were good ghosts, lol, but I think there was one for my sister - she was moving from old place during Halloween (she thinks the house is hunted), and once she took out all the religious articles, scary stuff was happening in the house - coldness, her last pet brids went kind of crazy, and she said that she felt someone grabbing her hand. She kept bringing friends to help, but no body wanted to go in, so I think she came back next day during the day to pick the rest. She is the one that can feel the most, out of four of us.

    Thanks again, Anna :)

  14. JJ me and you, it is nice gift, but a gift that not sure if I was able to handle too, lol. Thanks for reading my posts as always, Anna :)

  15. Hi! Children who have not been tainted by adult rebukes, have no problem in telling others about their imaginary friends.

Whether there ghosts or not, no one will ever really know for sure. Perhaps we'll find out one day when enter through those pearly gates.

    Regards
    Peter

  16. Hey Anna,

That is a good suggestion; I like it :)!
I'll think about it, and then will let you know :)! After all I must make use of Google's new feature, don't I lol?

Your sister feels things? That is so good! What a gift!!
LOL If the ghost grabbed her hand I don't think it is a bad one (cause if it were, it would've pushed her or something)!

No need to thank me, it's a pleasure :).

    Cheers

  17. Hi anna: I fully agree with you that children can often see more. However once (and this may sound strange) my great-great grandmother conveyed a sense to me when I was an adult. I don’t mean that she spoke to me but she spoke to me. It was a very strong sense of her presence and with her presence brought a confirmed basis that where I was at the time was where I was supposed to be. It had been a tough time in my life and I needed to know that I was where I was supposed to be at that time.

Also, your blog topic it made me think of this Halloween. For a while I stopped celebrating Halloween and just about every holiday just because I needed a reprieve from it all but recently I am getting back into it a bit because my SO really loves the holidays.

I was thinking, after all the kids stopped ringing the doorbell, that there were not as many children and second there were no pranks like when we were kids; there was no toilet paper strung all over the neighborhood trees nor was there soap streaks on everyone’s car windows.

    Times! They are a changing.

Regarding ghost stories: I have always been a real scaredy cat. I can’t handle the most humdrum gore or ghouls in the most commonplace situations. I’m a wimp that way and when I was a kid, I could not tolerate ghost stories in the least. I would have certainly hid under the bed, which of course doesn’t make much sense. Good for you for being a bit more aware as you went outside where there are many more options to run free.

  18. Peter you are right, the pearly gates is right, but now we don't know, kids also have great imagination too. Thanks for come back Peter, appreciated. Anna :)

  19. Hey Max, I think it will work out because you can actually keep people to come back to your blog all the time and carry conversation to your topic. Yes think about it, but I think it will work.

Yes my sister feels it even more, something I am not sure I would want to have, she is scared sometimes too. The only ghost I ever see are usually very quick dark shadows flying over my head and usually meaning someone is going to head out for the pearly gates (using Peter's expression). Most of the time don't know who it will be, but it is someone I know.

    Thanks, Anna :)

  20. awomansblog long time no talk. Thank you for you comment. Yes kids can see more, but adults can do the same, sometimes as adults we can tune into the same energy and have see more. Most of us minds are preoccupied with other life experiences, that we tend to block everything, if we let go and just listen we will be able to see more. Glad that you will be going back to Halloween spirit, it is fun. Especially when you see the very little ones dressed up in pretty costumes. Oh and don't call yourself a wimp, because I think I am bigger one. I will not even stay home alone when my husband is travelling, I sleep with lights on, and with eyes semi-open on alert, sometimes for nothing, lol. Thanks for visiting again, Anna :)

  21. Wow Anna,

Really? But that means that you are sensitive (although your vision might not be trained yet): I am impressed :)!

Yep, as I said in "Only Photo" I decided to accept your suggestion...from today onwards I'll establish a convo with your guys :-D!

    Cheers

  22. Yes anna, I’m relearning to listen to the still small voices and those that are not so small. I’ve come to realize that some of my dreams are great sources for that type of thing. But I tried to write one out today and my gosh, it took me four hours from my stay-at-home job just to write it out. Anyway, I’m going to check out your post above and maybe before the day is out I can do some semblance of “work” (lol)
