Economic Crisis or Greed Crisis - AIG Bailout, Chrysler Bailout ... You Name It

I promise to write something nicer next time, but I just cannot take anymore all the crap about economic crisis. I think they are more greed crisis, than the economic crisis. The two examples on the news, 'Obama 'outraged' at AIG bonuses' - I am too, and so are the US taxpayers.

'CAW face clash over wage cuts' - Chrysler autoworkers in Canada are getting paid $76 per hour, which translates to $608 per day, $3,040 per week and $12,160 per month. Someone tell me what is wrong with this picture. There are people who make $76 per day who probably may have even more skill than the autoworkers. Never mind the spa benefit. And now I am really outraged. I think Stephen Harper, Prime Minster of Canada should speak out too. Or do I have to write him another letter?
Here are two examples, and I will call this government mistakes. So before government gives out more bailout money, please learn and more due diligence next time. I am just disappointed hearing stuff like that and I had to vent - after all some of my tax money are paying for someones massage.

  1. The incorrect reporting by the mass media on this is sad.

The AIG bonuses were retention bonuses. They were negotiated with executives who were closing or paring back divisions, in order to keep these executives who knew most how to optimize the liquidations from leaving a dead end job, in order to minimize AIG losses during the restructuring.

Furthermore, the bonuses were negotiated before the bailout.

Furthermore, they were disclosed in SEC filings--again, before the bailout.

Futhermore, Obama knew about these retention bonuses.

Furthermore, a Democrat, at the request of President Obama, explicitly asked that language be inserted into the bailout bill protecting the bonuses.

And now he's pointing over there.

Do as he says. Don't look behind the curtain!

  2. Hey Anna!

$76 per hour? Portugal wished to have wages like that...if it did no one would be saying that we are in an economic crisis.

The media is deceiving. If we pay attention to what commentators (economic and political ones) are say, week after week, we come to the sad conclusion that what they say is rubbish. They contradict themselves and no reporter questions it - how can this be?

I agree with you: we are living a greed crisis.

I refuse to allow the press manipulate me. If this crisis will take a while to be solved and if the press if trying to illude us, then someone is benefiting from it.

    Great article, darling :D!

BTW, yes...you should write another letter to Premier Harper (I love reading your letters lol)!

    Cheers

  3. William thanks for commenting. I can understand where you coming from. Media does escalates everything, and I get enough from them too.

I can also understand about the negotiated bonuses, but I just cannot accept the fact that they would live a good life not from the money that the company earned, but taxpayers money. I really think that bailout money should have been restricted or limited for what it can be used. After all I just don't believe in bailout strategy at all, its like keeping an old dinosour on the life support. But this is my opinion, and like you said I don't know the whole story. Oh well, I just like to vent sometimes.

William your opinion is appreciated. Thanks for stopping by.

    Anna :)

  4. Thanks Max, yes $76 per hour, that is lot of money, some executives in the small corporation don't make that. Max like I told William media manipulates, but for automakers, the unions are not any better. They are the ones that trying to protect those wages. They rather loose their jobs, rather than taking wage cut.

Similar thing happened to near by university, teaching assistance 3 months on strike, because union wouldn't negotiate the wages and contracts. So on the end even if they got that 12% hike, they losted in all the striking hours. People just don't think...and students get punished for nothing.

Max, sometimes I just don't understand...so I vent, and just go on with my life, you know I have this relief valve on side of my brain, lol.

Thanks for the nice conversation Max. Appreciated.

  5. Hi Anna!

First how is it that I am so blind that I have never seen this blog before?!! Bad Livingsword bad!

ALL of the bail outs are folly…the US bailouts are digging their economic grave unless they pull a rabbit out of their hat which they fortunately are prone to do. However they are fundamentally changing their economic system so they may be hampering their recovery long term…the Golden Goose is on the chopping block the question is how sharp is the knife…

Here in Vancouver I know no business people except for the Ford, GM and Chrysler reps that want money gifted to such poor businesses. Why should we help them which also means punishing Honda and Toyota? I think our PM also does not want to give them money but with the Liberals and NDP on his case along with the Toronto votes required for winning an election we are unfortunately in trouble…I don’t want to give one cent to the “Big Three” auto manufacturers. I have had vehicle by all three of them and found them to be awful with very poor service at the local dealers with all three! I have found the opposite with Toyota and Honda…I don’t ever want to give any of my money to the Big Three whether by purchase or my tax dollars… they deserve to become extinct like the other dinosaurs…

Why does the left want to help failures instead of success stories?

  7. Hey Anna,

    You are welcome, girl!

"They rather loose their jobs, rather than taking wage cut."

Yes, our unions used to have that kind of thinking too...but not anymore. Now, they prefer to cut the wage down and still have a job, then rather losing it *nodding*.

"Similar thing happened to near by university, teaching assistance 3 months on strike, because union wouldn't negotiate the wages and contracts. So on the end even if they got that 12% hike, they losted in all the striking hours. People just don't think...and students get punished for nothing."

I hear you! Money prevents them from thinking clearly (which is clearly related to our ever growing consumerism).

"Max, sometimes I just don't understand...so I vent, and just go on with my life, you know I have this relief valve on side of my brain, lol."

Sometimes I don't understand people either, to the point of nearly calling them names (but don't lol...at least not in public lol).
LOL LOL LOL yeah, some of us have that relief valve lol (this is why I like our conversations; humour)! Venting is good, so vent away lol...

"Thanks for the nice conversation Max. Appreciated."

    Don't mention it, girl! :D

    Cheers

  8. No you are not bad, I am already thankful for visiting my photo blog.

LS you said: 'the Golden Goose is on the chopping block the question is how sharp is the knife…' - you are so right, I love that expression too.

LS you said: 'they deserve to become extinct like the other dinosaurs…' - yes yes I am with you. I always had Honda car, and always been happy with it. I driven NA car as rental only, not fun driving.

Liberals and NDP are the biggest complainers, they are never happy, they are not optimistic about anything, how can we let them run our country. They probably would do the same when in power, blame someone else. I am getting really sick of their negativity, along with media's embellishment.

Hey thanks for visiting my blobbing side again, appreciate.

    Anna :)

  10. Hi Max,

I wish that union got some good leader one day with a common sense. The one we have right now don't seem to be a good person, big chip on his shoulder (talking about auto industry). I think sometimes people just want to hear themselves on TV or in front of people.

MAx, you are so right, money does prevents them from thinking clearly, and I think that applies to each individuals too. Money is dirty, not just physically, but indirectly.

Hey girl, thanks for good conversation too, I feel much better now, lol, lol.

  11. Hi Anna,

"I wish that union got some good leader one day with a common sense. The one we have right now don't seem to be a good person, big chip on his shoulder (talking about auto industry). I think sometimes people just want to hear themselves on TV or in front of people."

I hear you! I can see that Union leaders there are like the ones here...they makes us wonder whether they are really working for the working class or for themselves.
Oh yeah, they love a crowd...

"Money is dirty, not just physically, but indirectly."

You know...when I look at people like Warren Buffet, I can't help but to ask "is it money that is dirty, or is it people that become dirty when they want money?"...money per se, is not dirty (I am not talking about bills and coins - because those are dirty for a fact - packed with germs and all), but people's mind might be (in the way they succumb to needs and wants so easily)...know what I mean?

"Hey girl, thanks for good conversation too, I feel much better now, lol, lol."

LOL Any time, girl! It is a pleasure talking to you! :D

    Cheers
