Look Around You

Look around you and tell me what you can see. Just take this one minute and observe. Here are my observations, I see my laptop front of me, typing this post. I am surrounded by the office portable desk walls, sitting on the chair. There is phone beside me, and if I am ready to switch to another software on my screen, any second I will reach for the mouse. Around me, I also have cut outs from the magazines and clipped to the wall. Do you want to know what it is? I am going to tell you - there are three photo cut outs of the apples, green apples with one red in the middle. I liked this photo so much that I cut out three of them and surrounded myself with. I also have other two photo cut outs of the ostrich, one says FLEXIBLE SOLUTIONS. Now let me tell that this ostrich is bending forward and looking between its legs - quite flexible, but I don't see flexible solution - so I find it funny even if I know this is just a metaphor. The second one says BE AHEAD with ostrich running really fast that you cannot see what's on the background. Could he be going 100 miles per hour, possibly, may be not in real life, but with today's digital editing - definitely yes. And the last photo cut out is something about genetically altered fruit flies, I will not go into details, but the head line states Buzz Off! Don't worry it is nothing to do with people visiting me, I like when people visit my cubical and talk to me, but I found it kind of entertaining to have it on my wall. So what else I can tell you about my surroundings, not much just a standard office setting. So would you say pretty boring, but for me nothing is really boring once you have access to the Internet, or start thinking how all this started.

Now you may ask - what's the point of all this blobbing. Well I am confused. Why? Let me explain, I started to read this book by Bill Bryson A Short History of Nearly Everything. By the way, it is currently lying on my desk beside me and then when I go home it goes with me to bed. However, when at work, when I think about my projects, I find myself looking at it, not really thinking, just looking. To tell you the truth, I started to read this book a long time ago, and then I ended up reading something else. It was no point to continue now, so I started to read over again. Well I am only few pages into the book, and these pages revoked something that I recently started to question. How do we know this and that? What I mean is - when we talk about universe creation, star formations, evolution, birth, good food or bad food - how all this has happened or is happening - and believe or not we make things, we discover things. And then is us - intelligent human beings. The world of unknown, because all are just theories unless there is real data to support, even though author on the end has explanation for everything. Therefore, just enjoy the life and enjoy the beauty of nature, the beauty of life - ask questions, but don't expect the right answer, it is all too complicated to figure it out.

This post may be lame, and there may be not substance here - but look around you - all this stuff, ideas, theories - its amazing. Yes, I am lost in my thoughts, but the more I think about it, all is just too complicated to figure out, yet it works - lol now!

  1. OK, I'm looking around and here's what I see--my iMac of course, a silver Starbucks travel mug, an invoice and a calculator, some pens, a to-do list. That's on the desk. Beyond that are the walls of my gallery--I'm at work, so there's lots of eye candy in the form of art on the walls!

The book you're reading sounds good. I don't believe your post is lame in the least. You're on to something, Anna. It's very hard to know ANYTHING for sure, so the best thing is to relax into it all, take a deep breath, and enjoy...

  3. Anna you are so funny! the thing is sometimes everything seems boring but then again if we have faith and press on we see that there is HOPE.

  4. Anna:

Your post is not lame. It contains the same thoughts that millions of us share - everything is just to complicated to understand. How do genes create a dog, or a cat? How did carnivorous plants know about insects in the first place. And then they decided to eat them. It's all too mind boggling.

I enjoyed your post. Have a nice day.

  5. Ok! I'm game. I look around and see my computer, 3 in 1 printer, my wife's laptop, my cell phone, fly spray to get rid of those pesky flies and mossies, a full ash tray, 3 used coffee cups, 2 empty diet coke cans and bills that I see sticking out of the draw where I hid them.

Now for the invisible items! I see what lays ahead of me for the day, Oh! it's not looking good, my sore legs are feeling better, my thoughts race as I think of what I'm going to do next.

Finally, I feel contented knowing that my wife is sound asleep getting well earned rest.

This is far from a lame post! Thanking you for making me contemplate my simple life.

    Regards,
    Peter

  9. swubird, thanks for your comments. Thanks for your support on this one. Sometimes I find myself so confused. I really would like to know all the answers but it is impossible, and to know that many of them are assumptions, speculations, theories and not real thing - confuses me. But then may be it meant to be like that, only some things need to be unleashed, and understood. Knowledge can be dangerous too. Thanks for sharing your thoughts, Anna :)

  10. Hey Peter, thanks for your thoughts, sorry if I made your simple life a bit more difficult, lol. Well Peter, have you ever thought to clean up that ash tray, take easy on your coffee and diet coke, and bills - our bodies do need real nutrients. And that will make your life even more simpler. However, you are one carrying person I must say. BTW, I been keeping my feet up lately, and may be you can join me too, lol. Thanks for sharing your thoughts Peter as always, Anna :)

Do not let it be so.

You have a great thought process.

  12. Hey Anna,

LOL incredible post if you ask me! I think I have figured out what you mean, girl: we think we know so many things, that we have answers for most questions...but in fact we may very well not know much; and we certainly do not have all the answers. However we should just look around and enjoy whatever surrounds us; and be balanced enough to find peace therein and within...

I look around and in front of me is the blue sea (my desk is facing the Atlantic sea), the sky (all so beautiful and blue...God's gift), the sun is posing in my balcony as it says goodbye to another busy day; I look at my right side and I see another desk where all my dictionaries, books (and religious material to debate with LS LOL), and other documents rest; on my left I have another desk where the phones are, printer, CDs and other stuff...and right in front of me, the laptop, the headset (I am listening to music as I type this comment) my agenda and cell-phone...

It is a lot of working material, stuff I use to produce my texts and assist my bosses (I have two of them)...but I love my job and everything that surrounds me :D!

Let me know if I understood you correctly, now I am curious ;D!

    Cheers, my friend...

  15. No, not lame! Actually quite interesting! I read that book and liked it very much. I just finished another book of his called "Bryson's Dictionary of Troublesome Words." I really like his writing.

When I look around, I see too many lists, etc. of things waiting to be done. If I look up from the computer I see out a large window to several bird feeders full of birds feasting on expensive seed. So the view from here is not too bad!

  17. Thanks Max! Hey Max now that I think about it, may be it is better that we don't know everything, that way the information can at least flow from person to person, otherwise, we probably all be stagnated, lol. Now after all these comments, I realized it is important to have that kind of momentum or dynamic for us to grow and evolve, and try to learn, and figure things out.

Max you said: 'However we should just look around and enjoy whatever surrounds us; and be balanced enough to find peace therein and within...' - well said, that will be my next mission in life.

Max you have prefect setting. Now everytime I need great inspiration, I will put my feet into your shoes or visit, lol.

Max you said: 'It is a lot of working material, stuff I use to produce my texts and assist my bosses (I have two of them)...but I love my job and everything that surrounds me :D!' - it is important that whatever you do in life or work is to enjoy. Lol, is LS your second boss, lol (just kidding).

Max: 'Let me know if I understood you correctly, now I am curious ;D!' - oh yes you did, probably more than I understand myself sometimes, but having all of you bringing up great insights, makes me realize many things - life is one great experience.

Max, and Cheers to you my friend...

    Anna :)

Will you got some interesting setting too. To have nature view is always nice, especially birds at play. You must have many as they probably like the good stuff.

Thanks again for sharing your thoghts, Anna :)

  21. Hi Anna!

As I look around me I see my laptop, a stack of papers to be sorted, another stack to be filed, my stack of 'to do' work, my desk accessories such as calculator, stapler, pen holder and pack of gum. Then on the walls I have a map of the USA and another of the World with pins marking the places I have traveled. (St. Petersburg, Russia is the farthest.) I also have a plaque that a friend gave me that says "God Answers Knee Mail" another my sister Ellie gave me that reads, "Put Your Big Girl Panties on and Deal With It", and a photo of a bull elk charging, which another friend gave me.

I have found that I surround myself with things that make me smile or have a special memory to me. My stacks of stuff to do doesn't make me smile so I better get back to work.

    Thanks for visiting my blog!

  23. Beautiful post, Anna. :D I loved hearing what your surroundings are. :D

I have the complete Midnight Warrior series books by Deidre Knight alongside me and a copy of Stephen King's ON WRITING. I am moderating Deidre Knight's author board and have some catching up to do because we just switched to a new forum.

On the other side of me the fourth season of "The Golden Girls" waits to be watched and beyond that, I see my laptop, which waits for me to finish my ms.

    Hugs, JJ

Like you said it is important to dress up your surroundings with things that make you smile and have special memories, and things that just need to be there like bills, lol. Sounds like the real life, there are things that we do and enjoy and once in a while there are obstacles. Lol, on the photo of a bull elk charging. Thank you for your comments and visit. Anna :)

  34. Thanks Bob. I wonder why cat would always sit on your left, lol, or may be he/she does not like the pepsi. That is something I don't know, the difference between reg and diet pepsi, we don't drink it very much - may be one per year. But my questions to you is, what are the 20 remote controls for, are you the one controlling all the events in the sky, lol. Thanks Bob for sharing some interesting stuff around you. Anna :)
