Share Your Christmas Moments

The Christmas is around the corner, so why not get into holiday spirit, a time of giving and time of beautiful moments with your family. These are few things that I would like to share with you - a moments of happiness. A moments that can be described in few words, however, they will last forever with me, and now I have the opportunity to tell the world, and have them on record.

I have two sisters and one brother. The order goes as follows: my older sister, me, my younger sister and my youngest brother. There is 5 years age difference between my younger sister and 10 years difference between my brother and me. My happy moments were when three of us (my brother wasn't born yet) used to go to the local forest and cut a small tree down, drag it home for about 5 km over fields of snow, in some places 1/2 meter high. Then we would assemble it and hang as many candies as we could, then we would eat them in a matter of few days.

When my brother was born and he was about 2 or 3 years old, I dressed up as Santa Claus and give out gifts in the house. We all head a blast.

It was tradition that no meat was consumed during Christmas dinner and still is. However, not now, but during my grandmother's time we all used to eat from one dish, and hold on to the spool through all 12 courses so our back would be good to work in the fields - I think that was funny when you are about 5 years old.

Last year in 2006 I finally decided to dress up as Santa again this time for my nephew and niece. I made my Santa suite from scratch, it took me a whole week to do it by hand. Unfortunately, my pants didn't survive the adventure, and thank God I had the long jacket. They called me a skinny Santa, hopefully this year I will not have that problem, lol. I will post some pictures on my only photo blog in few days.

And if you have some happy, funny or even sad moments - I would love to hear it. If you by any chance had the same idea, please feel free to provide a link to your site.

  2. Skinny Santa, I love that! Thanks for the beautiful post, Anna. :D

I have a sad Christmas this year. One of my family members will have surgery for cancer right after Christmas. Prayers are appreciated. I'm not mentioning it on my blog but prayers are welcome.

    Hugs, JJ

  3. Anna, I have a neice who is expecting twins and it has been touch and go since they've had a problem and they need to go at least two more weeks before birth. My precious neice has really been growing during this time. She said right from the time she was expecting she ate just the right foods and exercised and did everything she could to ensure a healty baby. But then she and her hubby discovered they will have identical twins. Though there have been many near calls to the birth coming too soon, my niece has been in the hospital for one month and one week now. My prayer is that the two of them can wait to be born as late as possible so that they can be healthy children. I see twins in that sleigh with beautiful red outfits - a real gift of God.

  4. Anna,

Thanks for sharing your story with us :)! So, you dressed as Santa? That must've been cute *tender face*!!! Did you put on weight for this year?

This is such a great idea!!
I don't celebrate Xmas; but my mom does, and so she prepares this huge party, and the family must gather around the table and have fun.

Our Xmas are so full of laughter (over silly family stuff) that I wouldn't know where to start...But I will think about it :)!

    Have a blessed weekend!

  5. Lena thank you for visiting, and commenting, and being honest, lol. Yes blogging can be consuming too, but you have to take care of first things first. So even Hi is appreciated.

Yes there can be sad moments too. I think the Xmas should be for kids only. And adults should enjoy the life during that time and each other. For me it is stressful, because the gift giving is huge in our family, and as years pass by I just don't know what to buy anymore, and I don't like the material things that much as I get older, I wish we could come back to the old days and eat from the same bowl with one spoon, lol.

    Thanks again, Anna :)

  6. JJ yes Skinny Santa, I will post the photos close to Xmas, so you can laugh.

Oh JJ I am so sorry to hear the sad news. I have to tell you I know what you mean, because we went through the same few years ago with my 10 year old cousin who was diagnosed with cancer too. You will be getting lot of prayers from me, and I think it is okay to talk about it on your blog and let people know too. However, please don't feel pressured by me.

One of the things I remember with my cousin was that he himself prayed too - and I had tears in my eyes everytime I looked at him, and I really think that is important too, it makes the sick one stronger.

JJ it means a lot for me that you shared this with me. Thank you, Anna :)

  7. Robyn thank you so much for sharing this story. It is wonderful news and she is really blessed with the two yet identical twins. Unfortunately, it is sad that she has to go through this like that. Yes it will be better for them to be born as late as possible. I hope everything works out for your niece, and please feel free to give us on update, and you have my prayers. Thanks again for sharing this story, Anna :)

  8. Max, yes it was funny not just cute, I had difficulty getting nice beard so I made one myself - it was okay on the end, but I forgot to put ventilation because I was getting really hot, and the fluffs were everywhere on my face, and just tell you Santa job is hard, lol. Yes I thing I gained about 2 kg (or 4 lbf) by now. I guess during winter we tend to put a bit more weight to preserve the temperature, but yes it is a bit too much, oh well, more food is coming my way during Xmas, lol.

So you don't celebreate Xmas, but hey just in general it is nice wonderful time of the year.

I will be waiting for your stories, and no pressure, I know you come up with something my dear friend.

    Anna :)

  9. Hi all, I just wanted to say thank you all for expressing your thoughts, and as much I want to keep the happy mood, please feel free to tell the other side of the story, as some of you did. I really think sometimes we are going through a tough time during Xmas, please do not give up hope, because happy endings do not have to end on Xmas day, can happen every day any time. Anna :)

  10. Anna,

LOL so you forgot to put ventilation? This one cracked me up LOL...

Winter is a terrible season to gain weight *nodding*! I know that by January the first I will have put a pound or two more (delicious food my mom cooks for Xmas and New year's eve *nodding*)!!!

You are right, it is a nice time of the year :).

I already have one to tell you, by tomorrow you'll have it lol :).

    Cheers

  13. Hi Max, yeah still looking for the beard (with ventilation, lol), I almost asked the local Santa on the shopping mall where he got his, lol.

Yes sometimes I dislike winter for that reason, but then if you actually think about it, apparently our bodies are desiged to keep all our internal organs at the right temperature. I hate to say or compare us to birds, but birds do puff up on the plumage for the winter. Oh well, cannot wait for the spring activities. I shouldn't really complain about the food Max, as we both know that there are many out there who do not have that luxury, or just food in general.

I will then wait for your story, thanks again. Anna :)

  17. Hello Anna,

    Merry Monday :)!

LOL you should've asked the local Santa, that would've been amusing lol.

True, Anna: many don't have food to eat *nodding*. That's why we should be grateful for the food we eat: Amen :)!

Here's my story (BTW thanks for your patience):

Xmas 1999; we had family in from Mozambique. We are all gathered around the table, and my dad starts telling jokes (the same ones I have been hearing for the last 30 years lol)...me and my brother decide that we should film it cause that way we record all our father's jokes for posterity lol. Everybody is laughing at his jokes, except my grandmother, who keeps looking at my dad thinking "we hear those jokes for years!" lol (my brother and I start laughing out loud - completely off beat, since by now the others have stopped laughing). Then my mom tells her adventures in Tanzania, and everybody is laughing at that, my granny is already sleeping on her chair lol (and we keep on filming everything). Laugh here, laugh there...suddenly the camera catches my granny getting up and leaving the room, nobody notices it...my mom keeps on talking, everybody is still laughing...my brother and I laughing like crazy (because of our granny) and my mom says "What are you laughing so hard at? You have heard this a million times" lol. 45 minutes later, my mom starts looking for my grandma "where's your grandmother?" she asks, "She left 45 minutes ago!" "WHAT? Without saying goodbye?" everybody looked at each other and started laughing like crazy lol lol...*nodding*.
Nobody dressed as Santa, but we danced like crazy for the rest of the night :). The end.

I hope you liked this small Xmas tale lol :).

    Cheers

  19. Max, I decided to shop online for the Santa beard and a wig, as it comes in sets, hopefully I can pull off some bargain and get it in time.

Oh I was laughing at your story so much, it is really funny, and it is more funny because of similarities that we have in our family. My dad tells us not just jokes, but his stories all over again, all the time, believe or not he is able to slip in few new ones too. My mother is always on his case. We do to tape or record our grandparents or parents, just because some of their stories will be gone once they are gone. I recorded my grandmother once when she was going through some old photos, however she didn't know, and I would slip each photo front of digital camera so at least we knew who she was talking about. Oh I love today's technology that allows us to do that.

I really laugh at part of your story, about your grandmother just walking out on the whole event. My dad does that too, he leaves a table, goes takes a knap and comes back, however, most of the time we are not done anyway.

Oh so glad that you could share this here, it is really fun, I can just imagine how nice it must have been, and how funny it must have been. Those little things and those little events does really matter - where I call it precious moments. And thank you for sharing my dear Max, Anna :)

  21. Anna,

I am sure you will get it on time :). Of course if you were in Portugal, I would have to tell you: "Ah, Anna, forget about it...you will never get it on time!" then you would tell me "Yes, Max, I will" and then when you would get it in February I would look at you with that "I told you so" face lol :).

lol yeah, everytime I watch that tape I laugh a lot too *nodding*.
Your dad does that?! LOL Definitely our families are similar :D. True: when they are gone their stories will go with them, so might as well record everything now :).
    Technology is amazing, indeed :).

LOL LOL LOL at least your dad comes back; my granny doesn't LOL *nodding*.

Yeah, it was funny and nice *tender face*! In my family we always generate funny stories; I don't know how we manage LOL LOL....
Anna, every moment with our family is precious: I just love spending time with my family :-D!
You are welcome, dear; I love mking you laugh :D!!!!

    Cheers

  23. Max, I think laughter is very important, and sharing moments with family is the most precious time in the world. Your granny never came back, lol, oh boy she is funny, and God Bless her. Tough woman, lol. Not sure if I will be having luck with the beard, seems like the good ones got sold out. I found one, where the price of shipping from US was 3 times the beard. Oh well I can always live with what I have, or will be searching in local stores, still have time. Thanks Max for your comments, Anna :)

  24. Anna,

Laughter is my middle name lol.
My granny is a tough lady indeed. Thanks for your wishes :)!

Now that I saw your photo (Santa one), I think that the old-non-ventilated one is cute: you are one gifted woman (to have made that costume in a chippy) :)!

    Don't mention it :)!

    Cheers
